How to Scare a New Mom

New parents expect to go through sleepless nights and many hours of trying to sooth a crying baby but what we (my husband and myself) were not ready for was a quiet night. Little Adalie had a busy day yesterday with lots of holding, lots of loving and a new friends birthday party.

Once home from her day she fell asleep around 11:30 after her normal feeding, I thought to myself, alright a few hours of sleep for me too until she wakes again for her 2am feeding. At 4am when I woke up by myself without the normal crying my heart stopped. I immediately bent over to where Adalie was laying silently...I checked to make sure she was still breathing...yes. I put my hand on her stomach to make sure she was still warm...yes. I took her temperature, to make sure she didn't have a fever..yes. I woke my husband up and asked him if I should wake her up. Him and I decided that no, we'll let her sleep and she'll wake us up when she's ready. Well at 5:30 she finally started to stir. She ate and then went right back to sleep. She proceeded to sleep all day until 3. She was tired and Mom was freaking out...is this normal! How can she sleep this much. I will stop trying to answer this question for today and just thank my lucky stars that she likes her rest :)

Porter Puppy the Protector

People told us that our dogs would be just fine around the baby but we never imagined our little rambunctious Porter to take on the protector role. He is diligent about checking baby Adalie especially if she is crying or sniffling. This is a huge relief to Rick and me. We were just not sure if he would try to play with her or pee on her....??? We are thankful that he is her puppy protector. While she was crying today he picked up his "bobo" (a long stuffed animal that is his most cherished toy) and brought it over to her crib and dropped it. Now if dogs could talk I think he would have said something along these lines, "here is my toy, now you should be happy". As I picked her up and sat in the rocking chair he followed us and laid down right besides us until she was asleep. In the picture above he was just getting ready to go lay down on his bed, as if he were saying, "see she's all better now because of me". What a great dog!

The drunken Sailor

What is it about being close to the ones you love that makes you feel better? Today, Adalie woke up with a stuffy nose and a little ity bitty cough. Hearing a two week old baby cough is tough enough but when it is your own baby it just pulls at your heart strings. Of course I was on the phone with the Dr right at 8 when they opened. The Dr assured me that she sounds like she is just a little stuffed up and that she will be fine. It is noon now and she seems to be breathing a little easier but I'm still worried. I don't think I'll let her out of my arms until she is all better.

Adalie's first walk

Today was Adalie's first walk. It felt like such a big accomplishment! We were able to get ready and out the door without any tears. We walked down to the mail boxes. It is a little over a half a mile from the house. The sight of us must have been amusing to on lookers. I was decked out in my new non makeup look, happy that at least my hair was clean (not styled but clean) and one of Ricks oversized jackets to keep Adalie and myself warm. Adalie was tucked into her Ergo carrier and fast asleep as soon as we started the walk - what an awesome happy baby. I honestly think that a couple of the cars that past us thought about stopping and offering us a ride. I can just imagine what people must have thought, "oh that poor new mother who has to walk to get her mail, oh and her jacket doesn't even fit". However, the smile on my face for getting out of the house must of shown that I was having more fun than a walk should warrant. Tomorrow off to see Uncle Jon and help him with the business postcards :)

Welcome Adalie ~

Okay so here is the first blog, for the Jacobs Family. We just wanted to welcome Addie into the world and if anyone would like to follow her as she grows we will update this periodically. Hope you enjoy :)
