Yosemite and Recent Trips

Addie and Rick or I, trekked on down south to Yosemite, a magical place. We planned on driving all the way to Laguna to see the Jill or my siss, but I just could not put addie through that sort of pain. So we split up the trip to Yosemite with a stop out of Ashland, Callahans Lodge. What a beauty, snow, all the things you would want in a lodge. We had a nice breakfast in the morning and scooted for Yosemite. I had made reservations that morning for Evergreen lodge and received a screaming deal for a one cabin. If you have never been I would suggest it. Great deals in the winter, a little high in the summer, but you beat the crowds. Addie loved this place the second we walked in. Granola on the coffee table and the scent of dinner all around,a s the lodge was close by and we were both famished. We sat near the fire place a absorbed the comforts of everything we needed at the time, no tv, no banter, just addie and me and the crackle of the fire. We both enjoyed our meal and, went back to the cabin and listened to some music. Addie picked a fever some where along the way and cut out early that night and I was able to read up on John Muir and his expeditions. Next morning I was able to lower addles temp and she begged me to take her into the Yosemite Valley, I gave in and we were off after a delicious meal. We drove straight to the waterfalls and enjoys the smells and sounds that come along with it. Addie wanted to sit next to all the energy, just as close as she achieve. I think that all this made her feel so much better. She was in a great mood consistantly throughout our little adventure. We had lunch and enjoyed the rest of the afternoon at the cabin. The next day we slept in and drove away for home around 10. Addie really wanted to hit up the Sacramento Zoo, I thought, ya know, what the heck. She pretty much fell involve with the place, although a little ghetto, it was clean and had all the fix ins to make for a nice experience. Monkeys galore, giraffes, lions, tiger, birds up the wazzoo. Stayed the night in Anderson, outside of, Redding, at this interesting place, then made it to home the next day on one piece, great time and addie will remember bits and pieces, but really I will remember every second to the trip.

Marathon!

Wow - can't believe that it was here and done so quickly.
Rick, Kirsten and I all ran the Portland Marathon. 15 thousand participants and 7 thousand crazy marathoners....
We headed up Saturday morning and picked up Jeanne in Cottage Grove, so nice to have Grandma with us. Once in Portland we checked into our cozy little room at the Avalon (super cute spa and hotel, thank you hotwire). Sunday morning 4:30 am we woke up and started to get ready. Thank god for Brittney and her awesome willingness to give up a Sunday to drive Rick, Kirsten and I to the start. At 6:15 we were downtown and ready to run...26.2 miles - bring it on.
Five hours later Rick and I crossed the finish line together. Kirsten came in shortly after and we are counting down the 362 days until we run it again. On Monday we all headed to the zoo and looked at all the animals we have been reading about - How great!

FISH ON!!!

Dad's fish -

Gma, Great Aunt and friends

Dancin' on Gpa's feet

Mom's fish (did I mention it was an early rainy morning, no makeup)

Addie's an ol' pro at gutting the fishes -

Off to the coast again. This time to see Gma Jeanne and Gpa Fred. We had such a good time. Adalie and Gma Jeanne spent Saturday playing while Rick, Fred, John and I went fishing and crabbing - it is amazing how much fun waking up early to go play on a boat in the rain can be...especially when you are catching big fish and lots of crab. I caught a monster and we all brought in lots of crab, so what better way to celebrate a good weekend than with a crab feed with family and friends :) The next morning we were back at it with Rick catching the big fish this time...not to mention the three that got away - so close, one was tin the net (at least a 40 pound beauty) when the reel detached from the pole. I think it might have been the first time Fred has heard me cuss and yell at another living creature, sorry Fred. hahaha next time fish, just wait, next time - we'll be back!

Run from Newport to Waldport -

This is what normal people do for fun...hahaha, okay maybe not but those training for a marathon love the opportunity to run from town to town, literally. Thursday Rick, Addie and I all drove over to the coast again to go deep sea fishing and running. Fishing was a bust because of the huge swells but that just gives us another excuse to hang out with Grandma and Grandpa Handschuch again. We had a great weekend playing cards, playing with bubbles and walking on the beach. What a great trip. Not to mention Rick and I were able to get our "long" training run in for the marathon - Newport to Waldport via 101 on foot. Super pretty!

Labor day weekend -

Adalie's first night away from mom and dad... (thank you Grandma and Grandpa)

On a last minute decision Rick purchased an entry for us to run the Wine run in Dayton (run to Carlton) for my 30th birthday - happy birthday! My parents Gma & Gpa Handschuch offered to watch Addie over night so Rick and I could travel to Dayton and have a date before the run - wow, super nice. On Friday we drove to Waldport, dropped Addie off and headed out to Salem Saturday afternoon, so excited to eat a meal with my husband without taking shifts - the run was beautiful, the wine was amazing. After running hard for 13.1 miles free wine is crazy good, bring on the sugar. :)
